NetEase Cuts Quarterly Dividend to $0.48
NetEase reduced its quarterly payout by 33.33%, with the shares trading ex-dividend on Sept. 3, 2026.
NTES — NetEase, Inc.
NetEase Inc. (NASDAQ: NTES) cut its quarterly dividend to $0.48 per share from $0.72, a reduction of 33.33%. The shares traded ex-dividend on Sept. 3, 2026.
The cut follows four consecutive years of annual dividend growth, although NetEase’s record has included variability: the company also reduced its payout in 2024. That history is consistent with a dividend that can move alongside quarterly business conditions rather than rise at a fixed rate.
Earnings provide context
NetEase’s dividend policy gives its board discretion to set each quarterly distribution based on operations and earnings, cash flow, financial condition and other relevant factors. The company therefore does not commit to maintaining a fixed quarterly payment. NetEase’s second-quarter results announcement reiterated that framework.
The reduction came alongside weaker second-quarter profitability. Net income attributable to shareholders was RMB7.0 billion, down from RMB10.7 billion in the preceding quarter and RMB8.6 billion a year earlier. Net cash provided by operating activities was RMB10.0 billion, compared with RMB13.7 billion in the prior quarter and RMB10.9 billion in the year-earlier period.
NetEase reported that operating expenses increased sequentially because of higher marketing spending, staff-related costs and research-and-development expenditures. It also recorded declines in the fair value of equity investments and impairment provisions, while its effective tax rate rose from both comparison periods. Those items offer context for the lower distribution, although the company did not identify any single factor as the cause of the cut. The figures and policy language were also included in the company’s SEC-filed interim results.
What it means for income investors
The immediate effect is a smaller quarterly cash payment. The supplied data list an annual dividend of $3.02 per share and a forward annual yield of 2.53% at a share price of $117.05. NetEase carries a dividend-safety score of 55 out of 100, corresponding to a C grade.
Because the board resets the payout according to quarterly conditions, future income may remain less predictable than it would be under a fixed-dividend policy. The cut also means the company’s four-year annual growth run should not be interpreted as a guarantee of steadily increasing quarterly payments.
