Chemed Raises Quarterly Dividend 16.67% to $0.70

Chemed Corporation (NYSE: CHE) raised its quarterly dividend to $0.70 per share from $0.60, an increase of 16.67%. The healthcare company’s shares carried an ex-dividend date of Aug. 17, 2026.

At the new rate, Chemed’s forward annual dividend is $2.80 per share. That represents a forward yield of 0.52% based on a share price of $540.57.

The increase extends Chemed’s record of annual dividend growth to 17 consecutive years. The company last reduced its dividend in 2000. Its official dividend history shows a long-running pattern of regular quarterly cash distributions.

Chemed operates through two wholly owned subsidiaries with distinct business models. VITAS Healthcare provides hospice and end-of-life care, while Roto-Rooter supplies plumbing, drain-cleaning, excavation and water-restoration services to residential and commercial customers. Roto-Rooter reaches most of the U.S. population through company-owned branches, contractors and franchisees, according to Chemed’s second-quarter regulatory filing.

Operating backdrop

The dividend increase follows a quarter in which VITAS produced higher earnings, helped by increased revenue and a lower Medicare cap liability. Roto-Rooter’s quarterly net income was roughly unchanged from the prior-year period, with higher marketing spending weighing on results. Chemed also said corporate expenses increased because of lower interest income, higher interest expense associated with debt used for share repurchases and Roto-Rooter acquisitions, and increased stock-based compensation. Those details were disclosed in the company’s second-quarter 2026 Form 10-Q.

Chemed did not tie the dividend decision to a specific operating factor. The higher payment nevertheless follows continued expansion at VITAS alongside a comparatively steady contribution from Roto-Rooter.

What it means for income investors

The increase raises annual cash income by $0.40 per share if the new quarterly rate is maintained for four payments. The 0.52% forward yield remains modest, making the event more notable for the continuation of Chemed’s 17-year growth streak than for current income.

SmarterDividends assigns the payout a safety score of 90 out of 100 and an A grade. Those measures indicate a strong assessed capacity to sustain the dividend, though future payments remain subject to board approval and changes in the company’s operating and financial position.
