Synchrony Financial Raises Quarterly Dividend 13.33%

Synchrony Financial (NYSE: SYF) increased its quarterly common-stock dividend to $0.34 per share from $0.30, a 13.33% rise. The shares traded ex-dividend on Aug. 5, 2026.

At the new quarterly rate, Synchrony’s annualized dividend is $1.36 per share. Based on the locked share price of $79.47, that represents a forward annual yield of 1.71%.

The increase extends the financial-services company’s dividend-growth streak to four consecutive years. It also follows a two-stage process: Synchrony’s board approved the planned increase during the first quarter, with implementation scheduled for the third quarter, before formally declaring the higher payment alongside the company’s second-quarter results. Synchrony’s first-quarter SEC filing documented the initial board approval, while the company’s July dividend announcement confirmed the declaration.

Operating context

The higher payout comes as Synchrony continues to report growth in spending and lending activity. In the second quarter, the company said purchase volume rose 8% from a year earlier and loan receivables increased 2%. Deposits supplied 83% of its funding, while the estimated Common Equity Tier 1 capital ratio stood at 13.2%. Synchrony also reported returning $950 million to shareholders through common dividends and share repurchases during the quarter. The company’s second-quarter earnings release filed with the SEC provides those operating and capital details.

Chief Executive Brian Doubles said the quarter reflected momentum across Synchrony’s core business drivers, citing customer engagement, account trends and higher spending across the company’s sales platforms. Synchrony’s quarterly filing also said it continued to expand and diversify its portfolio through new and renewed partner agreements. The Form 10-Q details those partnerships and notes that dividends remain subject to capital, regulatory and other restrictions.

What it means for income investors

The increase raises the cash income attached to each Synchrony share while preserving a quarterly payment schedule. The locked dividend data assigns the payout a safety score of 84 out of 100, equivalent to an A grade. That measure, together with the four-year growth streak, describes the dividend’s current profile; future declarations remain at the board’s discretion and can depend on earnings, capital needs, liquidity and regulatory requirements.
